Fashion's Night Out is coming to DEKALB MARKET

Dekalb Market,  located at 138 Willoughby Street in Downtown Brooklyn, NY will be hosting it's first Fashion's Night Out event on Thursday, September 8th 2011.

Everyone knows that Manhattan is considered the epicenter of fashion and there will indeed be plenty of events and shopping to be had but Brooklyn has a few tricks up it's sleeves as well.

The Dekalb Market Merchants will be offering a night of Shopping, Food Selections and Music from Brooklyn Bodega as well as some of BBOX Radio's top talent.

Brooklyn has been for sometime now the most genuinely creative borough in NY and on September 8th 2011, we get to show you exactly how we get down.

Stay tuned for additional details.  Can't wait to see you.

We Now Carry X Large to XXXL

CHIRP has finally started creating pieces for it's stockier fans.  My issue used to be that the designs they liked in smaller items didn't always translate well to the larger sizes...until now.

I think i've found a way to give you guys the same imagery but just in a size you feel comfortable in.

Right now it's just tees but in the coming weeks, i hope to bring in hooded sweatshirts and sweaters.

WEEK: 3

Week three has ended and i have noticed a considerable increase in visitors to the store as well as the market in general.

I think word of mouth is starting to spread and people seem to genuinely enjoy the space.  I believe that will increase when everything is finally in place.

Yesterday, they began prepping the top of the containers for "Green Gardens" which will also cool them.  I love that idea.

I'm excited about the coming weeks and months ahead, we have some cool performances coming up for children and adults, The DJ's are always banging, i just have to remember that i'm no longer in a singing group so when i dance, it shouldn't look choreographed, lol.

We're closed today so i'm going to try and get some work in.

Back to sewing!!!

New Product For The Store

I was in the Garment District yesterday (One of my favorite hang out spots, go figure) and i was inspired to create these pieces after seeing a guy wearing a Hell's Angels leather vest and sitting on an old motorcycle trying to chat up a woman who looked like she worked for Anna Wintour.

The contrast of that sparked the ideas and i couldn't wait to get home to to knock it out.

Today is "GREET THE NEIGHBORS" Day

Today we have a Vendor's meeting.  This will be the first time since we opened that we'll really have an opportunity to meet and get to know our neighbors.  Sure we've spoken but everyone has been so entrenched with their individual businesses that we haven't really had an opportunity to get to know each other.  I'm looking forward to that.

Dekalb Market: UPDATE 9: Our 2nd Weekend - 66 BLAK BIRDS

Well it's been a full week since our store's grand opening at the Dekalb Marketplace and i have to say it's been pretty interesting.

The foot traffic has been heavy and the sales pretty brisk.  People seem to really respond to the layout of the store,  as well as the product.  We're constantly meeting people who have been in business and have owned or still own retail spots of their own who offer helpful suggestions or give us leads on different things (Thanks Folks!!!).

The market in general is bustling with people who seem to be excited that we're here.  They've expressed that they love the rawness of the grounds as well as the different restaurants, the picnic style table set-up, the radio station as well as the fresh herb garden that some of the restaurants use to add fresh herbs to their ingredients. I believe this is going to turn into the new destination hub.

We have heavy security in the form of multiple children on scooters, bikes, etc., we call them the "Market Gang" they're some tough little hombres.

I think i'm going to like it here.
