MODEL SPOTLIGHT: MACHO

I recently had the pleasure of finally interviewing fashion runway and print model Macho (Yes! That's his real name). I met Macho about 4 years ago and thought that he had these striking features that I wanted to photograph. With his big doe eyes, thick  brows, full lips and cocoa skin, I couldn't remember ever meeting anyone that looked like him. I thought you guys might want to know a little bit more about this "Super" model.

1. How old are you?

A. I'm 22 years old .

2. Why modeling?

A. Modeling first found me. Like most models they rarely say how much they want to be a model they usually say they were discovered. So once I admitted to myself that it was something that I wanted to do, I pursued it. It also seemed like a cool job and I thought it would allow me to travel and experience people, places and things I might not have the opportunity to experience.

3. How old were you when you first started modeling?

A. I was 18 years old when I took my 1st photo shoot. 19 when I started to really model .

4. Who have you been photographed by?

A. I've been photographed by many photographers. Jerris Madison, Julius DC Bryant , Dallas Logan , Vince Chase Picz, Sean Watters, Briian Dargon, just to name a few.

5. What are some of your short and long term goals regarding modeling?

A. I would love to continue booking campaigns and pursue acting more aggressively.

6. What have been some of the negatives and positives for you in modeling?

A. A couple of negatives for me in modeling would be that it takes a while for you to have control of  your career.  When you start out your not going to make the money you may expect, therefore many times a new model may have to acquire a second job in order to not only support yourself  but also your modeling career. It can be tough but your dream has to have a bit of reality.  Some of the positives have been the traveling. Usually the more you travel in modeling, most likely the better you will be doing. Another positive would be that most of the time when you step out to work,  you're  in a fun environment, whether its a photo shoot for a catalog, editorial, or a sexy ass fashion show for a big name designer, that is when you get to be a different character similar to acting. I like that one day you may have a casting for Calvin klein or Armani and then tomorrow you may have Tom Ford and Brooks Brothers.

7. What Campaigns and Fashion Shows (T.V., Print, etc.) have you been involved in?

A. Fashion shows I've done have been a Nautica presentation, Moncler,  Rogues Gallery Fashion Show, Circle of Sisters Fashion Show, Cleons Fashion Show, Alt kilt show , all for New York Fashion Week. A few of the campaigns that I've had the privilege of working on have been Chirp , Ed Hardy for Miami Fashion Week, Nautica , The Speak Tee by Leon Christian, Darrell Cortez SS, the Magic Show in Las Vegas. As for T.V., I've recently done the Chrissy & Mr.Jones show, NYV Live, Starter Wives on the TLC Channel ,the Razah music video "Higher" and "Rain".

8. What do you like to do for fun?

A. Parties!!!!! I don't know of any other profession that allows you to party as hard as the modeling industry. Going out to eat and hanging with my friends, haha. Just Saying, lol.

9. What did you do before you started your modeling career?

A. Before I was a model I was your average high school student who was trying to figure out if I could make it as a MLB player, Sports is another passion of mine, Baseball in particular and I played semi pro baseball for a while.  I'm really into fitness as well.  I've been a personal trainer now 7 years so working out is dope.

10. What advice would you give to someone who wants to pursue modeling.

A. The biggest piece of advice I can give anyone breaking into the modeling business is It is not and easy business!!! Don't believe the hype. Very rarely can one person come in and steal everyone's heart and start booking every job! If you do, god bless you but if not, don't think its the end of the world . Its just preparation for when you do make it how will you handle yourself.  Patience and persistance is the name of the game. Lastly, this can be a good or a bad thing, your look or the way you photograph and being able to take direction is one of the biggest things you're judged on point blank! Therefore you always have an added incentive to look and be your best.

I'm sure we'll all continue to watch out for this personable young man as he ascends to his greatest heights.

INTRODUCING: SEAN LITTLE

I had the pleasure of shooting new model Sean Little today. This was Sean's first professional photo shoot and after initially being nervous, he soon warmed up and seemed like an old pro. The six foot model is also an avid skateboarder.  I'm looking forward to seeing his career blossom into big things.

Sean is currently represented by Mr. Deriq Odell.

INNOCENCE LOST: NEWTOWN, CT

In the wake of the Newtown, CT shooting on Friday, December 14th 2012, I am completely devastated and became physically ill by the senseless murders of the people, children and adults who perished yesterday.

In the day since, the devastation has turned to anger. Outrage that there are reports that the person who committed this atrocity apparently had issues long before he committed this crime. How do we as parents, as human beings and as a society continue to see and know these things and do absolutely nothing, nothing about it?

What happened to "It takes a village"? , What happened to "I am my brother's keeper"? How dare we not unequivocally do something? put some kind of "law" in place not 6 months from now, not a year from now but right now that absolutely forbids people to own firearms without a thorough background check and psychological evaluation. It seems that innocence can now only be found in a painting. I have to ask why would you want or need to purchase a gun unless you at some point intended on using it?

There are clearly too many people who are walking, talking time bombs and there is a mental health issue that needs to be addressed before someone is allowed to write their address on an application to purchase a weapon.

Devon Corneal of the Huffington Post writes...

The 'Right to Bear Arms' Is Not More Important Than a Child's Right to Grow Up

I know there will be talk of solutions, amendments, ratifications and the like for a while and then once again there will be silence but I believe too many of these  incidents have made that silence deafening.

I am afraid that with every tragedy I and the world experience, my heart breaks just a little bit more and soon  there will nothing left.
